Fresh and local
We’re working to make nutritious, local food more affordable for low-income residents of Benton and Linn counties, while also helping small farmers and food producers earn a sustainable income.
Background
Our mission is to fundraise to support incentives for low-income residents shopping at local farmers' markets; we’re helping them access more nutritious food while also helping small farmers and food producers earn enough to keep playing their part in a vibrant local food system. We envision a future in which fresh, local food is the first choice for all residents of the Mid-Willamette Valley.
who we are
Fresh and Local, First! was formed as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2017. We are a fully volunteer organization, which means every penny we raise through grants and local fundraising, goes to increasing the buying power of low-income people at farmers’ markets in Linn and Benton counties. Our board of directors includes academics specializing in food systems, nutrition, and food insecurity, as well as human service, emergency food, and community outreach professionals, people in agriculture, and other volunteers passionate about strengthening local food systems.
